We celebrated Kate's second birthday last week with a book party at the church. Since her birthday is the week of Christmas, she does not need gifts, but I hated to say "no gifts" two years in a row--the girl will start to feel slighted. So we decided to have a book-themed party and asked everyone to bring her a book. We included a book plate in the invitation that said "I chose this book for Kate because..." so all her new books have messages from her friends and family. I thought the theme was great!
David came up with the idea to have Santa show up to read to the kids at the birthday party. Our friend Brad Butler transformed into Santa Butler and was a hit with the adults wanting to snap pictures of the kids with Santa--but not so much a hit with the kids at all.
The kids colored book-themed pictures, ate brunch food, played on the indoor playground, and listened to Santa read Kate's favorite book Goodnight Moon.
Adorable cake--it looked exactly like the book

Don't let the picture fool you--she was as scared as the others

Kate's constant facial expression is what we call a duck face. She purses her lips.
Once he realized Santa had treats and could get him toys, Benton jumped right in his lap
He was scared at first though!
